Service Area
The Central Pharmacy in the Klinikum Chemnitz gGmbH is a modern service centre. Its is responsible for the dispensing of drugs, infusion solutions, disinfectants, dietetic foods, contrast media as well as chemicals and in-vitro diagnostic agents to all wards and functional units of the Klinikum Chemnitz gGmbH.
The Central Pharmacy has concluded drug supply contracts with other hospitals and rescue services, such as the German Red Cross (DRK) Hospital in Chemnitz-Rabenstein, the Bethany Hospital in Chemnitz, the Mittweida District Hospital with hospital sites in Frankenberg, Mittweida and Rochlitz, and the Stollberg District Hospital.
The introduction of the online drug ordering service, directly from the wards, allows for the efficient and speedy processing of drug requisitions.
The Central Pharmacy sees itself also as a drug information centre. The staff members of the Central Pharmacy advise doctors and nursing staff on all aspects relating to treatment by the application of drugs. For this purpose the Central Pharmacy is equipped with modern medical and pharmaceutical databases, reference books, specialist books and journals. The medical staff of the Klinikum Chemnitz gGmbH can search the pharmacopoeia in the local internal intranet. The pharmacy staff continuously update the pharmacopoeia.
They also carry out a biannual check of all of the wards of the Klinikum Chemnitz gGmbH and all other buildings that receive drugs from the pharmacy. The aim of such regular ward inspections is to ensure that no drugs deteriorate or are administered beyond their use-by dates and that no excessive stocks of drugs are built up at the wards. At the same time, the proper use of narcotics, in accordance with the rules, is also checked.
The Central Pharmacy is an approved further training establishment for Clinical Pharmacy and, in addition to the practical training of pharmacy students, also allows pharmacists to carry out further studies for them to specialize in this field.
